Message from the Conference Organising Committee
As a member of the international coastal engineering community, many of you have now told us loudly and clearly what you want, and here in Sydney we’ve listened.
It is now four years since the ICCE community last gathered together in Baltimore. Due to overwhelming support and desire for a fully face-to-face conference again, the Sydney Local Organising Committee is delighted to announce the 2022 dates for the next ICCE conference, to be held here in our spectacular International Convention Centre, located on the shores of Sydney’s Darling Harbour in the very heart of the city.
So come join us from the 4th – 9th December 2022. This is the first week of Sydney’s temperate summer, when the sun shines, the beaches are golden, and the ocean is warm. We have selected these dates in close consultation with the Coastal Engineering Research Council, recognising that different regions of the world will continue to re-emerge through the first part of 2022, as border and travel restrictions ease.
It will be our enormous pleasure to welcome you to Sydney next year, for what will no doubt be a very special and memorable gathering of colleagues and friends.

About COPRI
Created in 2000, the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) is a semi-autonomous institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the country’s oldest national engineering society. COPRI’s services are designed to complement ASCE’s traditional civil engineering base, and attract non-engineering allied professionals who seek to enhance their professional and technical development.
COPRI serves its membership and society by uniting the disciplines working to sustainably develop, protect and restore coasts, oceans, ports, waterways, rivers and wetlands; integrating the key stakeholders into decision-making processes; advancing technological state of art and practice; and influencing public policy.
History of CERC and ICCE
The Council on Wave Research was established by Professor Boris Bakhmeteff in June 1950 under the Engineering Foundation. In 1963 the Council was transferred from the Foundation to ASCE and renamed the Coastal Engineering Research Council (CERC).
The first ICCE was held in Long Beach, CA in 1950, and has been held biennially since. Although the conferences began with a national focus, they quickly became international in scope.
